Understanding AML screening

Last updated: March 19, 2025

When running AML sanctions screening, you may receive warning inputs for potential matches. Understanding how to verify these matches and interpret the relevance scores is crucial for accurate compliance screening.

AiPrise's AML screening system uses multiple methods to identify potential matches and provides tools to help verify true matches:

Matching Criteria

  • Name matching is the primary identification method

  • Date of Birth (DOB) is used when available, though not all data sources include DOB information

  • The system uses an AI agent to analyze matches and generate relevance scores

Understanding the Relevance Score

AiPrise's AI agent generates a relevance score (e.g. 85/100) to help determine the likelihood of a true match. The score is calculated based on various matching factors and can be used as an initial screening tool.

Verification Process

To verify potential matches:

  1. Review the AI-generated summary of flagged issues

  2. Manually examine the details of each match

  3. Cross-reference available information with your own data

  4. Use the relevance score as a guidance tool, not as the sole determining factor

Important: Manual review of matches is required even with high relevance scores, as AML sanction screening commonly produces matches that need human verification.
